Royal Oaks Country Club
Royal Oaks Country Club is a private club and gated residential community in the Alief area of west Houston, about 8 miles west of The Galleria, built on the former Andrau Airpark site. Developed starting in 2000 by Sunrise Colony Company — the first new country club built within Houston’s city limits in fifty years — the 140-acre community surrounds a 7,033-yard, par-72 championship golf course originally designed by Fred Couples; the club’s own site says a course redesign by architect Beau Welling, a Tom Fazio protégé and collaborator of Tiger Woods, is underway 25 years after the club opened. The subdivision was planned for roughly 900 single-family and estate homes around a 45,000-square-foot clubhouse, a separate spa/sports clubhouse, a tennis complex, and an aquatic center.
Ownership & Operator
Royal Oaks Country Club and its surrounding ~900-home subdivision were developed starting in 2000 by Sunrise Colony Company on the former Andrau Airpark property, with multiple builders (including Abercrombie Custom Homes and Charles R. Martin and Associates) constructing homes in the community. The club’s current day-to-day ownership/operating entity is not detailed on its own site — unconfirmed beyond the original developer.
